    Dead Island acquired...

...for PC. I heard the PS3 version was poopy, and PC is cheaper anyway (49.99). I'll provide a review within the week, for anyone interested! Am excited though, most of the early reviews have said that its a bit glitchy but terrific and addicting fun.

Addicting fun? I'd be interested in seeing how. My brother is convinced its L4D PS3 version so hes getting it. I'll probably borrow it.

Played around an hour or two so far. Thoughts!

This game is not close to L4D2 at all. Yes, there are 4 protagonists, but that's really it. This is by far much more similar to Fallout 3, in the best way possible. The melee weapons are fun to use, and also quite frail; finding a weapon you like is a great challenge and keeping it healthy is cool. The plot is more or less a default plot, but it isn't bad, and the quests people have you running around with make sense.

I don't know why, but this game is just.... fun. It's repetitive and yet exciting too. In Just Cause 2, i was amazed at how large the world was and how you could do so much in it... but then i noticed that i simply traveled everywhere. There was little reason to explore the entire island, with the exception of getting 100% game completion. In Fallout 3, I loved how intricate the game was, how detailed the missions were and the world of an apocalyptic Washington DC was. But i disliked how retarded the VADS system was, how it became repetitive, and in general it became... cruddy. Fallout 3 was fun for a while, but I see no reason to pick it up.

I don't know why, but I get the urge to explore the place in Dead Island. There's loot like cash, but also items for crafting such as "wire" or "rubber glue" and stuff. You can find the base material for weapons, craft them into stronger ones or upgrade your own. You get a stat tree that is very similar to Borderlands, and each character's stat tree is slightly different.

4 characters all have their backstories, but what's more important is their weapon proficiency. One dude specializes in throwing weapons, the black chick specializes in shooting guns, the asian chick is good at blade weapons, and the black dude is good at blunt weapons (that's what I picked). You start off playing alone, but anytime another player is near you you can join their game. This game is a lot of fun with another player. I want to see if there is mic support (pc again), but so far I haven't actually checked.

I look forward to playing it tomorrow! Who knows, maybe it's just new game hype.

it's back at 49.95, and in any case there's an interesting problem with the game. They released the wrong version on Steam: the DEV build is online. They fixed it a coupla hours ago, but earlier you could freely access noclip mode and go into 3rd person... it was hilarious. Now, they released some fixes or something, so i can no longer go through buildings and such. But i also can't play my save anymore... sigh, 2 hours of my life deleted!

Well, at least I'll definitely have to check it out now I suppose. Unless I get really intricate reasons as to why its fun I have no idea what I'd think of it.(I remember some guy telling me I'd love Transformers 3 lol) and the blatant stereotyping the devs gave the characters in the #4 of your post has me laughing.

its glitchy, that's for sure. But a lot of this can be fixed pretty easily with patches... and pc patching is pretty easy. A botched release day, i can live with.

If they can polish it up with more and more patches, this could be a really good game. Right now I can't suggest getting it for PC, since it IS glitchy.
